Naomi Campbell Walks The Runway for 20-Year-Old VICNATE

Victor Anate’s remarkable journey at ARISE Fashion Week began when he successfully applied to be an intern during the 2019 showcase. The following year, he became one of 30 young designers selected out of thousands of applicants to showcase in ARISE Fashion Week’s ’30 Under 30: The New Stars’ competition. At just 18 years old, he was by far the youngest designer on the roster, but his collection – a range of bold and sensual evening-wear pieces – left a huge impact.

This year, for his sophomore appearance on the ARISE Fashion Week runway, Vicnate said goodbye to the vibrant and colourful hues of his 2020 collection. His closing look, a sultry, white ensemble, was a sneaky twist at the end of an otherwise all-black collection.

“The collection is an extension of my last collection, N°4, which was inspired by the film Eyes Wide Shut,” the designer said. “The theme was svelte and sensual. All the silhouettes were very slender with the base hue as black.”

The monochromatic collection certainly caught the attention of ARISE Fashion Week’s Creative Director, Desirée Ejoh, and Lead Stylist Jenke Ahmed Tailly, as the Vicnate showcase marked supermodel Naomi Campbell’s first appearance (out of a total five) on the ARISE Fashion Week & Jazz Festival runway. Campbell has walked the runway in previous years for some of ARISE Fashion Week’s most influential designers, including Tiffany Amber, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Mai Atafo, Banke Kuku and Kenneth Ize.

“She embodies everything the brand stands for,” 20-year-old Anate said of Naomi’s surprise appearance in his show. “It felt great seeing one of the most beautiful and powerful women in the world strut down the runway, and in one of my personal favourite looks.”

Well, with years of experience, endless talent and the Naomi Campbell stamp of approval, there is truly no limit as to what he can achieve. One thing is for sure, people will be talking about the name Vicnate for years to come.
